With the evolution of technology, every aspect of our life has become accustomed to its use. From communication to learning and from shopping to payment, there has been a drastic change in everything that we do in the past few years. Teaching and imparting education is no different. With the children of this world introduced to modern technology from a very young age, it's obvious that education methodology must keep pace with the world of today. Edmodo is a great app to help teachers and students use technology to impart knowledge and to learn respectively. The education app offers a classroom type environment and ensures that communication between the teacher and students can continue outside of school or college too.
Edmodo is an education app which offers three kinds of interfaces. You can join the world of Edmodo as a teacher, as a parent, and as a student. Each role comes with its own set of access. When you would download the app, you would have to join in one of the roles during sign up. You can join as a teacher right away. However, to join as a parent or as a student, you must have the group code that the teacher shares with you after a class has been created on Edmodo by the teacher.
As a teacher, you can create a classroom and then share the code with the students so that they can join the class as well. Once the students have joined the class, you can then start sharing resources with them, start giving them assignments and also start seeing their responses to your questions. The app has a very simple interface and doesn't overcomplicate anything. If you join as a teacher, you become the moderator of the classroom. The class has four tabbed sections namely 'Feed', 'Members', 'Resources' and 'Small Groups'. You can type in messages and create new assignments for your students through the feed section. The students can also share anything like questions etc. here provided you allow them the authority of posting in this section. In the members' section, you can see the parents and students who have joined. The resources section is for uploading class lectures and other relevant material. You can make groups here for every kind of resource and then upload any file or picture or even share a link. The small group section is if you want to further divide your classroom into smaller groups and share anything else that you want to share in the smaller group.
There is also the option of sharing resources and sending messages to other people in your school community. This is great for more open conversation and for sharing of important teaching notes too. The app also allows you to keep track of assignments and when an assignment would be due. You can also review the assignments from within the app too which is fantastic.
Edmodo is equally great for students and worrying parents who want to keep track of how their children are doing in classes. Students can get access to learning material directly from their teacher through the classroom while they can also get assignments along with reminders of when the assignments must be submitted. For parents, they can both evaluate whether their children are doing well in their class or not and can also check the quality of teaching being imparted as well.
- Great option of streaming useful material with all of the school community
- A fantastic option of communicating directly with fellow teachers and students
- An easy way of assigning class assignments and remembering when they will be due
- Good forum for sharing relevant material with all the students of the class
- Great organization for separate classes so that you can communicate relevant material with each class easily
Edmodo is an education app that embraces technology and puts it to good use. A great option for creating a virtual class for teachers, it also helps students in getting access to study material right on their phones and computers. It's a must use for teachers, students and parents!
